Beste Leden,

COMMENT ON TOP5 ODG - REVISION STANDARD BOXER FCI - MEETING 4/6/2021

In this first phase of the constitution, we must consider that the WUBOX is an organism created just a year ago, and we need to make ourselves known in the world of boxer and international cynophilia.

Demonstrate our organizational, technical skills, to work with seriousness and passion.

It is also true that its basic components are the cornerstones of world breeding : the Germany nation holding the standard, strong in its traditions and organization capillary in the control of native breeding, and severe guardian of the dog-breeding roots of the race.

Italy, which is also well-structured, is full of experienced breeders and is able to achieve consistently top international sports results, which share passion and experience together with a strong sense of respect for health of the boxer, carrying out controls in order to eliminate or to check various pathologies, without neglecting the characteristic aspect of the breed, also subjected to tests that determine the positive value, beyond the high morphological quality reached by the breed.

To add also the quality and the ferment that exists in other European nations of great tradition, that have demonstrated their skills and their interest in the boxer, becoming the "cradle" and making a strong contribution to the development of the race : it is the proof of this constitution of ours "organism".

But in my opinion, we must have patience , this document must be analyzed at various levels in our field, also involving other components such as the Commission on Health, and I dare say a Committee Judges, which we will have to discuss ; all topics that need to be expanded and that it is right to address specifically in meetings "with presence", and not in online meetings; to enrich the quality, and be ready and aware to deal with the competent bodies of the official Cynophilia.

The proposal made jointly by our Breeding and Show Offices, that I have already praised for their ability and desire to do, can be a good starting point, an incentive to discuss and try to deepen and find together the right solutions.

I do not think it is appropriate at this time to face up to this challenge, we are now planning the events we have proposed, we are showing what we have set up for, and then we can continue to work on these issues in parallel.

Even beyond that, considerations about white boxers, and interpretations of the Standard by some nation. Up to, if necessary, an amending draft of the Standard - this can be the goal! -

As a second phase, I think it is more useful, that the Breeding Commission (maybe strengthened), can make an assessment on the state of the breed, analyzing the situation in individual countries, make reports and discuss with a representation of the Judges "Specialists"; create guidelines (deliberate by the Wubox) to follow in the shows of the various Boxer Club Associates and in our Championships, to direct the breeding, focusing on the most common strengths and weaknesses at this time.

Protocol
WUBOX online meeting on June 4th, 2021 – 6 p.m (Time in Germany)

Dear friends,

I am sending you the protocol of WUBOX online meeting on June 4th, 2021 attached. The recording of the online meeting was deleted today.

Betreff: Boxer breed standard discussion

Dear Colleagues!

During the online meetings of the two commissions, we did some work on the detailing of the current breed standard (please see attached). We are convinced that our common task is not to change the existing Boxer breed standard, but only to clarify certain issues in more detail, and to divide faults into three categories.
For more serious and open discussion, we left the issue of white color.

Therefore, we would like to ask the WUBOX Member countries to openly discuss, add to, or renew formulations of the points worked out in the attachment regarding the standard.

We are waiting your comments, ideas, additions till 04.07.2021!

With the results obtained from this, we would like to ask the German Boxer Club in WUBOX Presidium tomake a meeting with responsible persons in Boxer Club Munich - as the leader of the standard for presentation of our ideas.

TRANSLATION: Mrs C. Seidler, revised by Mrs Sporre-Willes and

R. Triquet. Revised by J. Mulholland 2008. Official language (DE).

ORIGIN: Germany.

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE OFFICIAL VALID STANDARD: 01.04.2008.

UTILIZATION: Companion, Guard and Working Dog.

FCI-CLASSIFICATION:

Group  2     Pinscher and Schnauzer- Molossoid breeds- Swiss Mountain and Cattle Dogs.

Section 2.1 Molossoid breeds,mastiff type.

With working trial.

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: The small, so called Brabant Bullenbeisser is regarded as the immediate ancestor of the Boxer. In the past, the breeding of these Bullenbeissers was in the hands of the huntsmen, whom they assisted during the hunt. Their task was to seize the game put up by the hounds and hold it firmly until the huntsman arrived and put an end to the prey.  For this job the dog  had to have jaws as wide as possible with widely spaced teeth, in order to bite firmly and hold on tightly. A Bullenbeisser which had these characteristics was best suited to this job and was used for breeding. Previously, only the ability to work and utilization were considered. Selective breeding was carried out which produced a  dog with a wide muzzle and an upturned nose.

GENERAL APPEARANCE: The Boxer is a medium sized, smooth coated, sturdy dog of compact, square build and strong bone. His muscles are taut, strongly developed and moulded in appearance.

His movement is lively, powerful with noble bearing. The Boxer must be neither cumbersome nor heavy, nor light or lacking in body substance.

IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:

  1. Length of body / Height at withers: Square build, which means that the horizontal line of the back is perpendicular to the vertical line passing through the point of shoulder and to the other vertical line passing through the point of buttock, thus defining a square outline.
  2. Depth of brisket / Height at withers: The chest reaches to the elbows. Depth of chest is half the height at
  3. Length of nose bridge / Length of head: Length of nose bridge in relation to skull should be 1:2 (measured respectively from tip of nose to inner corner of eye and from inner corner of eye to occiput).

BEHAVIOUR / TEMPERAMENT: The Boxer should be fearless self-confident, calm and equable. Temperament is of the utmost importance and requires careful attention. Devotion and loyalty towards his master and his entire household, his watchfulness and self-assured courage as a defender are famous. He is harmless with his family but distrustful of strangers. Happy and friendly in play,  yet fearless in a serious situation. Easy to train on account of his willingness to obey, his pluck and courage, natural keenness, and scent capability. Undemanding and clean, he is just as agreeable and appreciated in the family circle as he is as a guard, companion and working dog. His character is trustworthy, with no guile or cunning, even in old age.

HEAD: This gives the Boxer his characteristic look. Must be in  good proportion to the body and appear neither too light nor too heavy. Muzzle should be as broad and powerful as possible. The harmony of the head depends on the balance between muzzle and skull.

From whichever direction the head is viewed, from front, above or sideways, the muzzle must always be in the right proportion to the skull i.e. it must never appear too small. It should be clean, not showing any wrinkle. However, natural folds are formed in the cranial region when alerted. From root of nose, folds are always indicated running in a downward direction on both sides.

The dark mask is confined to the muzzle and must be in sharp contrast to the colour of the head so that the face does not appear sombre.

CRANIAL REGION:

Skull: The cranial region should be as lean and angular  as possible. It is slightly arched, neither too round and short, nor flat; nor should it be too broad. Occiput not too pronounced. Furrow in forehead  only slightly marked, must not be too deep, especially between the eyes.

Stop: The forehead forms a distinct stop with the bridge of nose. Bridge of nose must not be forced back into the forehead as in the Bulldog, nor should it be downfaced.

FACIAL REGION:

Nose: Nose is broad and black and only slightly turned up with wide nostrils. Tip of nose is placed slightly higher than root of nose.

Muzzle: The muzzle is powerfully developed in three-dimensional volume, neither pointed nor narrow, nor short or shallow. Its appearance is influenced by:

  1. Shape of jaw. b) Position of canine teeth. c) Shape of lips. The canines must be placed as far apart as possible and must be of good length, making the front of the muzzle broad, almost square and forming a blunt angle with bridge of

In front, the edge of the upper lip rests on the edge of the lower lip. The part of the lower jaw with lower lip curved upwards, called the chin, must not markedly protrude over upper lip, seen from front. Nor should it be hidden by the upper lip but should be well defined from front and side.

The canines and incisors of the lower jaw must not be visible when mouth is closed, neither should the tongue show. Median groove in the upper lip (philtrum) is clearly visible.

Lips: The lips complete the shape of the muzzle. The upper lip is thick and padded and fills the space formed by the undershot lower jaw; it is supported by the lower canines.

Jaws/Teeth: The lower jaw protrudes beyond the upper jaw and is curved slightly upwards. The Boxer is undershot.
The upper jaw is broad where it joins the cranial region, tapering only slightly towards the front. The teeth are strong and  healthy.  The incisors are as even as possible, set in a straight line. Canines wide apart and of good size.

Cheeks: Cheeks are developed in proportion with the strong jaws without markedly bulging. They merge with the muzzle in a slight curve.

EYES: The dark eyes are neither too small nor protruding or deep set. Their expression conveys energy and intelligence and must not be threatening or piercing. Eye rims must be dark.

EARS: The natural ears are of appropriate size. They are set on wide apart on highest part of skull. In repose they lie close to the cheeks and turn forward with a definite crease, especially when the dog is alert.

NECK: Topline runs in an elegant arch from the clearly marked  nape to the withers. It should be of ample length, round, strong and muscular.

BODY: Square body resting on sturdy,
LEGS:
straightgs.
Withers: Should be marked.

Back: Including loin should be short, firm, straight, broad and muscular.

Croup:  Slightly  sloping,  broad  and  only slightly arched.         Pelvis should be long and broad, especially in bitches.

Chest: Deep, reaching to elbows. Depth of chest is half the height at withers. Well-developed forechest. Ribs well sprung but not barrel- shaped, extending well to the rear.

Underline: Running towards rear in elegant curve. Short, taut flanks slightly tucked up.

TAIL: The tail is natural, without a knot or deviation, normal length, and left natural. Set on high rather than low. In repose, the tail is hanging down with a natural curve. When the dog is alert or moving the tail is carried higher than the backline, but not curled.

LIMBS

FOREQUARTERS:
General appearance: Front legs, seen from front, must stand parallel and have strong bone.
Shoulders: Long and sloping, connected firmly to body. Should not be too loaded.
Upper arm: Long, making a right angle to shoulder blade. Elbows: Neither too close to side of chest nor turned out. Forearm: Vertical, long, lean and muscled.
Carpus (wrist): Strong, well defined, but not exaggerated. Metacarpus (Pastern): Short, almost perpendicular to ground. Front feet: Small, round, tight, well cushioned and hard pads.
HINDQUARTERS:
General appearance: Very muscular, the muscles brick hard and visible under the skin.

Hindlegs: Seen from rear: straight.

Thigh: Long and broad. Angles of hip and knee are open but as little as possible.

Knee (Stifle): When dog is standing, should reach sufficiently forward so that it would touch a perpendicular line from point of hip to ground.

Lower thigh: Very muscular.

Hock:   Strong   and   well   defined   but  not  exaggerated.        Angle approximately 140 degrees.

Metatarsus (Rear Pastern): Short with slight inclination, 95-100 degrees to the ground.

Hind feet: Slightly longer than front feet, tight; well cushioned and hard pads.

GAIT / MOVEMENT: Lively, full of strength and nobility.

SKIN: Dry, elastic without any wrinkles.

 COAT
Hair: Short, hard, glossy and close fitting.

Colour: Fawn or brindle: Fawn comes in various shades from light fawn to dark deer red but the most attractive shades are in the middle range (red fawn). Black mask. The brindle variety: fawn background of varying shades has dark or black stripes running parallel to ribs. Stripes must contrast distinctly to ground colour. White markings should not be discarded. They can be quite pleasant.

SIZE AND WEIGHT:

Height at the withers:                 Dogs:          57-63 cm.

Females:    53-59 cm.

Weight:  Dogs:     over 30 kg when height at withers is ca 60 cm. Bitches: about 25 kg when height at withers is ca 56 cm.

FAULTS: Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.

  • Head: Lack of nobility and typical expression, somber face,

insufficient stop. Eyes protruding or too deeply set, too round or almond eyes. Unpigmented third eyelid, slack eye lids. So called “hawk eye”, lack of pigment in haw. Bridge of nose falling away, too straight nose bridge. Too prominent cheek muscles.

WUBOX COMMITTEE for SHOW & WUBOX COMMITTEE for BREEDING

2021, May,02

Dear Presidium,

dear boxer friends,

Today we are contacting you as WUBOX Presidium with a friendly request.

In the last few months, the show committee was met at regular intervals via Zoom Meeting to exchange current topics regarding judges and shows.

In addition to Corona-related issues, all of us were concerned with the - in our opinion not permissible and not conforming to the standard - breeding license with white boxers in Norway.

However, the big question behind it is: what can be done about it.The approval in Norway is based on an "interpretation" of the standard that, according to the opinion of the Norwegian Boxer Club, it is possible and permitted to breed with boxers who in color are more than 1/3 white marking.

Also in social media in different boxer breeders and lovers groups now flourishing debates around the standard of Boxer, and it also indicates a need for change.

This has prompted us to invite the breeding committee to our Zoom Meetings to go through the standard point by point and see if evolutions could be made. After long discussions, we agreed that the best and most future-oriented way could be that „faults“ in the Boxer standard,  are defined more clearly than before in order to prevent such procedures or at least make them more difficult.

Therefore, we would like to ask the WUBOX Presidium to openly discuss, add to, or renew formulations of the points worked out in the attachment regarding the standard.

With the results obtained from this, we would like to ask the two German Boxer Clubs in WUBOX Presidium send our requests to the responsible persons in Boxer Club Munich - as the leader of the standard.

At the follow-up meetings with the responsible leaders at the Boxer Club Munich, clear rules regarding white boxers should also be found on the basis of a broad and open discussion.

We are firmly convinced that we all together in WUBOX can set a very important impulse and, under the leadership of the Boxer Club Munich, making it possible setting a relaunched standard, in its role as the motherland of the breed.

We know that our project will be a long way, but we are firmly sure that we will make this way together, as a sign of respect for our mutual love, the BOXER.

On behalf of all members of WUBOX committee for show and WUBOX committee for breeding

  1. The WUBOX show rules are based on the current show rules of the FCI (http://www.fci.be/ medias/EXP-REG-en-11012.pdf ) as well as on the local kennel club organization of the respective organizing country of the WUBOX show.
  2. Once a year the WUBOX exhibition takes place.
  3. All member countries of WUBOX can apply for the organization of the show. The application must include the submission of a dossier stating the location, the existing infrastructure (showground, parking, catering facilities).
  4. The organizer agrees to transfer € 3,00 for each boxer listed in the catalogue to WUBOX. (except for entries in breeding groups, progeny groups and pair classes, as these boxers must already be entered in a regular class).
  5. The show is awarded by the delegates during the WUBOX General Assembly.
  6. Basics for the organizer the publication of a program, a registration form and the submission of a catalogue is mandatory. The publication can be in paper form or electronically.
    • Show organizer country may invite judges from WUBOX judges list and also boxer specialist judges from other countries.
      • The judge must be authorized by the FCI to judge the breed boxer.
      • The judge must be approved by the national boxer club or a country with a mutual/reciprocal agreement for the approval of judges in FCI.
    • The list of judges is drawn up by the organizers of the show. Afterwards the list is sent for confirmation to the WUBOX show commette. For confirmation, one needs to send a list of judges and a short CV of each judge, registration price plan and deadline of registration. Show commette send judge list to Presidium for final aproval.

The Presidium approves the judges by voting for each judge. Voting takes place separately,                       for approval a judge needs 51% of the votes. If the presidium votes 50/50, then the chairman of the show commission has 2 votes to resolve the controversial voting

  • Invitation of judge procedure:

- Signed contract should be received before registration is opened.

- Judges traveling and judging expenses must be covered according with FCI rules as minimum.

  • The registration portal for the WUBOX show should be available as soon as possible, but at the latest 3 months before the registration deadline. Organizer of a show should at same time also publish information about national certificates awarding rules.
  • The registration for the show obliges the exhibitor to pay the entry fee and at the same time to accept the WUBOX show rules in the respective valid version.
  • After registration the exhibitor will be informed whether his dog(s) has (have) been accepted. The necessary show documents will be handed over on the day of the show.
  • Dogs not listed in the catalogue may not be judged, unless their inclusion in the catalogue was omitted due to an oversight by the show management.
  • Approval At every dog show, the well-being and health of the dogs must take precedence. The exhibitors are responsible for the welfare of the dogs at a FCI international dog show. It is forbidden to expose a dog to a situation that can be dangerous for its health and welfare, such as for example leaving it in the car in excessively hot or cold weather and/or treating it in a cruel manner. Violation of this ruling will result in exclusion from the ongoing and future dog shows according show ethic codes of WUBOX. Appendix 1. (Ethic codes)
  • Only dogs that are registered in an FCI-approved stud book or its register are admitted. The show management is entitled to reject entries without giving reasons.
  • Anyone who knowingly gives false information, makes changes or interventions to his dog or tolerates such that are likely to deceive the judge will be excluded from the event. Ratings, titles and prizes awarded at the show may be revoked. In case of recurrence a temporary or permanent show ban can be imposed by the WUBOX Board of Directors.
  • Boxers cropped and/or docked, born after the 1st of January 2013 are not allowed to be shown.
  1. The judge's decision is final. An objection against it is inadmissible. Any undue criticism of a judge's decision will result in the loss of all awarded ratings, titles and prizes, as well as immediate expulsion from the show. Exclusion from all later events can also be imposed by the WUBOX Board (proposal to the WUBOX Board by the show management).
  2. If there is a formal inaccuracy, whether caused by the organizer, judge or exhibitor, every exhibitor concerned has the right to object to this. If the organizer of the show becomes aware of a formal inaccuracy on its own initiative, it is obliged to initiate the necessary investigations and steps. Objections to formal inaccuracies must be submitted in writing to the show management on the day of the exhibition. Each objection must be accompanied by 200 EURfee, which is forfeited in favor of the show management if the objection is rejected. The show director will decide on the appeal after hearing all parties involved. This decision can be appealed against in writing (registered letter) to the WUBOX Board within 8 days. The decision of the WUBOX Board is final.
  3. Exhibitors themselves are responsible for the timely presentation of the boxers. Each exhibitor is liable for damages caused by his dog.

Determination for the award of titles

The title of WUBOX Working Winner is awarded on the occasion of the WUBOX show to one male and one female each of the fawn and brindle colour from the working class.

The title of WUBOX Winner is awarded on the occasion of the WUBOX show to one male and one female each of the fawn and brindle colour, which were rated “Excellent 1” from intermediate, Open and Champion Classes.

The title of WUBOX Youth Winner is awarded on the occasion of the WUBOX show to one male and one female of each of the fawn and brindle colour, which were rated "Excellent 1" in the junior class. (if a youth dog class is allowed, then this must be adjusted accordingly)

The title of WUBOX Veteran Winner is awarded once a year on the occasion of the WUBOX show to one male and one female of each of the fawn and brindle colour. If white boxers can be exhibited in the country where the show is held, for example, a best white male or white female should be awarded.

I have received the minutes of the WUBOX Meeting of 4 June, and I agree with everything that has been reported.

But,  with regard to the TOP 5 of the agenda, my speech shared and signed by Roberto Crosa, President of the BCI,

and read by the translator Mrs Jacqueline Iraci, during the meeting, was not included in the minutes itself.

I attach a copy of the document to facilitate its integration.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Onderwerp: Re: Breeding Committee

Dear All.

The Dansk Kennel Klub only requirement for pedigree puppies is HD. But BK recommends that you test for HD, Heart and Spondylosis 24 months. The result for spondylosis must be read in Germany.
We have a mating list on BK's website and on this mating list the matings are divided into gold, silver and bronze depending on which health results the breeder has done at their dog, and whether the dog has a German or Danish ZTP. Here you can take a look at our mating list https://www.boxer-klubben.dk/boxer/avr/parringsliste.asp

Dear Paskal, dear friends,

Was very nice to see you last week smiling and healthy!
To activate WUBOX web page we think could be useful to collect information from member countries about health tests necessary for breeding in each country (if boxer club and kennel club have diferent requirements, please note both).

If in country also is obligatory some caracter test, ztp, selection test also interesting to know, about full requirements for breeding.
For Latvia obligatory is only HD test for both parents, but responsible breeders make more tests as heart and spondylosis.

best regards,
Inese Pablaka

Sehr geehrter Herr,

Bernhard Knopek

Sehr geehrter Herr Knopek,
